Electric Gate Service – Does my electric gate need to be serviced?

All powered entrance systems, including automatic gates, need maintaining with planned servicing as defined by the manufacturer of the system. Every system owner has a clear responsibility to ensure that an electric gate service is carried out and that the gate system is in a safe operational state with all details held within the technical file.

To do this, every installation has to be serviced and maintained according to the planned service agreement provided by the manufacturer.

What if we were never given one or just do not have it, who then is responsible? The owner of the system is ultimately responsible and has to prove reasonable steps have been taken to ensure the system is safe in operation. Without a service record of the electric gate service this is very difficult to prove.

What if we have had work done on the gates? Anything done on the system including decoration, must be done by a competent and authorised party with all detail added to the technical file accordingly.

Lack of servicing may jeopardise the original investment and put the owner at risk.

Component parts can wear and fail, sometimes catastrophically. Like most machinery, powered doors and gates need to be maintained to remain safe. Powered gates forming parts of workplaces or in common parts of residential complexes will be subject to health and safety law.
